The snap shackle is a combination of a snap karabiner with a safety bolt and an eye for attaching or splicing sheets and ribbons. This shackle is often used to attach sheet systems to the tree (Optimist). On larger ships this shackle is mainly used to shackle the spinnaker or gennaker safely.
