Blocks and reels for your sailboat
Why blocks in water sports?
As early as 970 B.C. in ancient times, people realized that the pulling forces associated with loads could be halved if the pulling rope was run over a fixed pulley. This insight was immediately implemented in shipping, which allowed stronger winds to be better controlled, because with multi-stage pulleys it was finally possible to process the pressure in the large sail over the sheet. This basic idea has not changed since then. Today, however, such combinations of single reels are used at a variety of locations in your ship to make the ships the finely trimmed sports machines they are today.
What are the blocks?
Today, the blocks are no longer a mixture of wood, brass and iron - powerful regatta blocks are sophisticated, ball-bearing carbo composite blocks with maximized working loads at minimized size and weight. For different line strengths one finds different block sizes and in the sheet blocks today even manually switchable backstops are inserted. These blocks therefore also act as holding support at high pressure. Today, prefabricated double or triple blocks can be found for entire pulley block systems, and in the catamaran sector even up to 6-pane block rows can be used to divide the tensile load by 64.
