What are riding belts?
Even in the early days of regatta sports, athletes tried to keep their body weight as close as possible to the pressure in the sail due to the increasing wind. This reduces the heel of your ship and you have less lateral drift. At first they tried to ride out by hanging from the side of the hull and hanging as much body weight as possible from the ship. But then it was recognized that you had your center of gravity in your buttocks and that it had to be as far away from the center of the ship as possible. For this there are the riding straps - lengthwise tensioned straps in the ship into which you hang yourself with your feet
Different shapes and manufacturers
For different boat classes with different ship lengths and widths there are of course individually adapted riding straps. In some boat classes like the pirate even 4 riding straps are used, because also the foresheet "only" rides out and does not stand in the trapeze. There are differences here in the width of the belts, length, thickness, weight and coating.
