Advantages of neoprene shirts
Neoprene shirts enjoy great popularity among sailors. Especially if you go sailing in the summer, want to enjoy the beautiful weather and the pleasant water temperatures and want to get your skin a little tanned in order to look good out of the water, then a wetsuit for the whole body is often not the right thing. Neoprene shirts protect above all the body regions above the belt line, in which your important organs lie, which must be kept warm absolutely. Your legs and arms are much less sensitive to the cold and above all are in full use so that they automatically stay warm. With neoprene shirts you will find the optimal mixture of protection from the cold and sun enjoyment.
Optimum use for neoprene shirts
You can wear a short swimsuit with a neoprene shirt or a bikini bottom. This looks good and works even if you don't want to be in the boat for hours. For longer sailing adventures without a dry break in the harbour, however, you should consider adding neoprene trousers to your outfit. There are short models that only cover your body a little more than your bathing outfit, but keep it significantly warmer. You shouldn't be saving here in the wrong place. Especially the constant change between water and boat as well as the constant splashing water in which one finds oneself while sailing, holds the danger of catching a cold. If it gets really cold now and a neoprene suit is no longer sufficient to keep you warm, it can also be useful to put on the neoprene shirt under the suit and reinforce the protective, warming effect again.
Protection from solar radiation
Another reason to wear a neoprene shirt even when the temperature is warm when going out to sea is the sunshine, which should not be underestimated. As a sailor you are on the water surface, sun protection is a must. With a neoprene shirt you are on the safe side.
