Signal devices can save lives

In sailing it is not possible to simply stop, as in some other sports, when the conditions become too much or problems with the material have arisen. There are various signal devices to draw attention to yourself. Especially in sport sailing, a pipe is a simple but useful way to draw attention to yourself in an emergency. In Optimists, for example, whistles are mandatory for all participants in DODV regattas.
