What is SUP?
SUP stands for "Stand Up Paddling", also called Stand Up Paddling or Stand Up Paddle Surfing, is a water sport. In this type of surfing, an athlete stands upright on a surfboard and paddles with a paddle.
Genesis
Originally, fishermen in Polynesia used to paddle their canoes by standing on the sea. Even today, bamboo rafts and canoes are still in use, where paddles are used for propulsion in shallow waters in addition to poles for pushing. In other areas, standing paddling has an almost heroic historical background, because standing paddling was the king's job to look down on others. No one but the king was allowed to paddle standing up. Later, however, this position was chosen by surf instructors to have a better view of their student. In addition, you are faster and more maneuverable standing on the board with a paddle than lying on the board. Even later, hobby sports enthusiasts began to discover this way of moving on the water for themselves; after all, this sport can be practised without wind, waves or motor. It is therefore not surprising that this sport is on the rise in European inland waters.

In competition SUP is practised in disciplines such as overcoming a long distance or surfing. The competitions are not limited to small local events but are now national and international competitions in both disciplines.
Material / Equipment
SUP boards are available for a wide range of applications in a wide variety of designs. The surfboards are made of hard shell or inflatable, available in different lengths with different volumes, so that you can find the ideal board for your purpose. However, it is advisable to read the manufacturer's description of use carefully, as a manoeuvrable small board for a lot of surfing time is less suitable for long day trips on shallow, calm inland waters and vice versa.
